AEB sees sales of new cars in Russia falling by 50% in 2022

MOSCOW, Apr 20 (PRIME) – Russia’s sales of new cars may plummet by 50% or even more in 2022, Alexei Kalitsev, head of the Automobile Manufacturers Committee of the Association of European Businesses (AEB), said in a conference on Wednesday.

“The market volume will depend on how fast we are able to restart production and supplies … If we stay in a positive scenario and we restart production, our market may amount to about 800,000–850,000 (cars). In fact, This is a 50% contraction. If production is restarted later that in the third quarter, the market will be even smaller,” he said.

Car supplies will not improve in April–June, he said.

The AEB said previously that Russia’s sales of new cars and light commercial vehicles fell by 28.4% on the year to 277,332 in January–March.
